Within the carer’s assessment process, there is the opportunity to consider what support the person you care for would need if you were temporarily unable to provide assistance. If you would like more information on this, please ask the person carrying out the assessment.
Emergency at Home Scheme
Adult Social Care have recently developed a scheme which carers can use to get help in an emergency situation, for example, they have to go into hospital unexpectedly.
Carers who register for the service can draw up an Emergency Plan and be given a credit card sized ID card with an emergency contact number.
As part of the Emergency Plan, the carer can nominate three family members, friends or neighbours as emergency contacts, should an emergency arise. If they are not available, or there are no nominated contacts, short term support will be provided until alternative arrangements can be made by Adult Social Care.
This service for carers has been put together jointly by Darlington Borough Council and Durham County Council and will be provided by Unique Home Care.
For further information about the service, please contact Unique Home Care on 01388 773884 or visit the Carers Emergency Support Service website [external link]
