Nubeck Nursery

Nubeck Nursery is on Salutation Road, opposite Elm Ridge and signposted Woodburn Nursery.
Nubeck offers people with learning disabilities the chance to train and develop their skills in a real work setting which may lead to a job. The Nursery offers up to eight training places a day.
Training includes: Various aspects of horticulture – this means gardening, growing plants and flowers Health and safety Woodwork Making stone ornaments
The nursery also works in partnership with Woodburn Nursery (the main Darlington Borough Council nursery) helping with growing plants for Darlington. Nubeck have also helped Woodburn get ready for four Tatton Park projects which is one of the biggest flower shows in Britain.

Plants for sale As well as helping Woodburn with their plants, Nubeck produce their own summer and winter bedding plants for sale to the general public. This is becoming very popular and sales are rising each year. A basket and tub filling service is also available. Nubeck grows vegetables in the garden and we are now offering our surplus vegetable plants for sale.
Other Projects Nubeck has been involved with other organisations and work has included: A complete makeover at the entrance of a Darlington school Building a Pergola at an old peoples home A makeover at a Sedgfield day centre Supplying bird boxes to Friends of Geneva Wood Supplying plants to various schools and childrens nurseries Building a sensory/trials garden on the Woodburn site for use by staff, clients, schools and other day services.
Awards In 2007 Nubeck was judged for the "Rod Leyburn Memorial Trophy" in the "Best Learning Centre Horticultural Project" category for the Northumbria in Bloom Competition. Staff and Service users were delighted to be awarded a Silver Gilt medal. In 2008 Nubeck won the category "Contribution to the Environment" in "The Best of Darlington Awards". In 2009, Nubeck won a gold medal in the "Rod Leyburn Memorial Trophy" for the best school or learning centre horticultural project.
